Thank you to the ladies this week!

A huge thank you to women at both the Homemakers’ Ladies Guild, Keynsham and the “Ladies’ Leisure” group, Coalpit Heath. I have been invited to talk to both groups over the last couple of weeks, and been able to show lots of photos and answer many questions about life on the streets and Alalay’s work. Both groups made me feel so welcome and kindly made significant donations to my work.

Thank you to the organisers for co-ordinating the talks.

New whiteboard!

When Rachel Davies ran a campaign a few months ago to sponsor 100 mattress covers for the Alalay welcome centres, we had no idea how successful it would be.

She not only managed to raise enough for the 100 covers, but also pay for cake baking tins (for cookery with kids) and a whiteboard which helps with homework, teaching and much more besides. Rachel has just sent us some photos of the new whiteboard being used for some English teaching.

Alalay cello concert

We have just received photos from Alalay of their recent cello concert. World-class cellist Michael Jones kindly played for the street kids, Alalay staff and the local community as part of his world tour and the children were spell-bound. Many Alalay kids even had a go on his cello after the concert!

Please see below for more photos of the event (please just click on the thumbnail for a bigger image).

Purple fundraising!

A huge thank you to Olly Jamieson who recently painted himself purple for a day to raise money for the ex-street children at Alalay, helped by friends Jack and Hannah. Please do watch his story here.

There’s always plenty of fun events going on. Check out forthcoming fundraisers organised by our fantastic supporters here. There are many more soon to be announced – including parachute jumps, sponsored leg-waxing and Iron man competitions!

Cake and craft sale/Saltford Walkers’ talk great successes!

The tea, cakes and craft sale was a brilliant event – a packed house, lots of purchases, tea and cakes… People came from miles around, and some walkers even chanced upon the event! Thanks to everyone who helped out either beforehand or on the day – we raised a fantastic amount for Friends of Alalay. Please see below for some photos of the event.

In the evening I spoke at the Saltford Walkers social event – again members continue to support my work and were very generous in their donations.
